About Safford

Safford is a city in and the county seat of Graham County, Arizona. Also the principal city of the Safford Micropolitan Statistical Area, it was founded in early 1874 by Joshua Easton Bailey, Edward Tuttle and Hiram Kennedy. The town was named for Anson P. K. Safford, the Arizona Territorial Governor. On October 10, 1901, it was incorporated as a town. In 1955, the City of Safford was incorporated. It is located within proximities to the communities of Thatcher, Cactus Flat, Swift Trail Junction. Solomon, and San Jose. The main roads serving the area are West 5th Street (U.S. Route 70) and South 1st Avenue (U.S. Route 191). As of the 2010 census, the city has a population of 9,566 people.

Safford Regional Airport

Safford Regional Airport is a general aviation facility owned by the City of Safford. Built during World War II as a military auxiliary field, it is the only paved airport in the county. As of today, it is home to the Ponderosa Aviation. The trusted aviation service center provides air attack services for the Department of Interior and US Forest Service, as well as air ambulances, self and full services, aircraft maintenance and modifications, plane rentals, snack bars, pilot lounge and courtesy transportation.
