Northside is a neighborhood within Fort Wayne, Indiana. It is bordered by the St. Joseph River to the west, northwest, and north and the Maumee River to the southwest and south. North Side High School

North Side High School is a public school serving the residents in Northside. As part of the Fort Wayne school system, the secondary school can be found on East State Boulevard. Designed by notable architect Charles R. Weatherhogg, it was established in 1927. From 1948 to 1952, it was the home of the Fort Wayne Pistons from the Basketball Association of American, which would go on to be the National Basketball Association. North Side High School offers classes from 9th through 12th grade. It has a population of 1,557 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of 19 to 1. Based on state test scores, 51% of its students are at least proficient in reading and 24% are in math. The high school has an overall Niche grade of a C plus and a GreatSchools rating of a 3 out of 10.

Forest Park Elementary School

Also located within the boundaries of the Northside neighborhood is Forest Park Elementary School. Part of the Fort Wayne Community Schools district, it caters to students from pre-Kindergarten through 5th. The school has a student-to-teacher ratio of 20 to 1. Based on state test scores, 24% of its students are proficient in reading and 25% are in math. The school is ranked number 6 out of 1,102 in the Most Diverse Public Elementary Schools in Indiana on Niche.com. Niche also gave the elementary school an overall grade of a C. GreatSchools gives it a rating of a 2 out of 10.

Lakeside Park

Lakeside Park is a 23.8-acre park in Northside. Situated on Lake Avenue, it was purchased in 1908 from the Fort Wayne Land and Improvement Company. Previously prone to flooding and stagnation from the St. Joseph River, the park currently features:

• Lakeside Park Little Free Library

  • The Lakeside Pond is part of the Department of Natural Resources' urban fishing program known as the Go FishIN in the City. With appropriate licenses, visitors to Lakeside Park are permitted to fish in the pond.
