Mohave Valley is a census-designated place (CDP) of Mohave County, Arizona. Geographically connected to Bullhead City, Fort Mohave and Needles, California, the first known European to travel through the area was Melchor Diaz. In 1540, he documented his travels in the northwestern part of Mohave County, where he met a large group of natives called the Pipa Aha Macav, or the "People by the River. The name Mojave, or Mohave, came from this "Aha Macav." As of the 2000 census, Mohave Valley has a population of 13,694 people and a total area of45.5 square miles.
River Valley High School was founded in 1992. Part of the Colorado River Union High School District, it can be found on East Laguna Road. The high school offer classes from 9th to 12th grade. It has a population of 503 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of 17 to 1. Based on state standardized test scores, 45% of its students are proficient in math and 55% are in reading. The school has an overall Niche grade of a C plus and a GreatSchools rating of 4 out of 10.
El Rio Golf Club is a centerpiece in the heart of Mohave Valley. Designed by architect Matt Dye, the 18-hole championship golf course is a perfect recreational space. The golf club is rich in Spanish history and a picturesque world locked in time. The golf club also offers golfing lessons taught by qualified PGA instructors. These instructions could be for individuals, groups or juniors. Lessons utilize both outdoor and indoor amenities. El Rio Golf Club is open daily from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. All-day tee time rates are $39.
Spirit Mountain Casino is a locals favorite in the Mohave Valley area. It features a wide selection of slot machines and table games for novice to experienced gaming enthusiasts. After hours of playing, visitors can eat and take a break at their Mesquite Grill. The restaurant is also open to non-players and residents in the area. Located on Arizona State Route 95 (Mohave Valley Highway), it is open every day from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m.
