Brief History of Chesapeake Beach

Chesapeake Beach is a small coastal neighborhood along the west and east sides of the Chesapeake Bay-Bridge Tunnel. Located in Virginia Beach, the residential area is also often referred to as Chic's Beach and Chick's Beach. It was in the early 1900s when the area of Chesapeake Beach became a beachfront residential community. Before then, it was a lookout post for the war. The neighborhood consists of:

  • Beach cottages
  • Single-family homes
  • Conduminuions
  • Apartments
  • Duplexes
  • Townhouses

Unlike other beaches in the City of Virginia Beach, Chesapeake Beach is less well known. Therefore, there is typically less to no public traffic in the community. Residents living in the neighborhood are often seen enjoying recreational activities such as:

  • Boating the four lakes
  • Jet skiing
  • Kayaking
  • Stand up paddleboarding
  • Sailing the Bay
  • Skateboarding
  • Skimboarding
  • Building sandcastles
  • Walking the beach

Chesapeake Bay

Chesapeake Bay is the beach to go to in Virginia Beach if you are in search of somewhere with a more laid-back vibe and calmer water. Residents in the community typically just walk down to the beach for some swimming, dolphin watching and sandcastle building. For those who aren't from the area, parking is available on the streets or at the nearby First Landing State Park and Lynnhaven Boat Ramp. Situated near the Chesapeake Bay-Bridge Tunnel, the beach is perfect for an early morning dip in the water or an afternoon walk on the sand.

Restaurants

As you get hungry spending all that time down at the beach, the neighborhood is home to several local restaurants offering American to Italian cuisines. These eateries include HK on the Bay, Green Parrot Grille and Zia Marie. If you are looking for more of a coastal experience, the Buoy 44 Seafood Grill on Ocean View Avenue is worth checking out. The waterfront seafood restaurant features surf 'n' turf entrees, bar bites, a full bar and a view of the ocean. It is open Mondays through Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. On Saturdays and Sundays, the restaurant is open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
