Arsenal Technical High School, also referred to as Arsenal Tech or Tech, is run by the Indianapolis Public Schools district. Located on a 76-acre campus southwest of Near Eastside, the public high school is the only school of its kind in Indiana. From 1864 to 1903, its campus served as a U.S. Civil War era arsenal until it closed after the Spanish-American War. In 1912, the Arsenal Technical High School was founded by Milo H. Stuart. Some of its academic courses are held in buildings dating back to military use, like the Barracks and the Arsenal building. Because of the significance of the school's history, campus and facilities, on May 19, 19796, it was added on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).
The John Boner Neighborhood Centers is a community center in Near Eastside. Its mission is to inspire neighbors and partners to improve the quality of their life in the neighborhood. Programs and services the center offers are adult programs, youth programs, health and wellness, housing and rental assistance, and community development. Some adult programs provided include financial coaching, career coaching, signing up for an IDA saving account, free tax preparation, getting your GED/HSE, exploring career training opportunities, courses, workshops, and more. The youth programs feature early childhood development resources, summer camp, afterschool programs, Parent Cafe's, and youth employment. The John Boner Neighborhood Centers is open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the corner of East 10th Street and North Beville Avenue.
