All About Bayside

Bayside, Virginia, is among one of the seven boroughs that were established when the City of Virginia Beach was created in 1963. The others are Princess Anne, Kempsville, Pungo, Virginia Beach, Lynnhaven and Blackwater. Located in northern Virginia Beach at the geographical coordinates of 36.903056 degrees north latitude and 76.134444 degrees west longitude, the borough is within the vicinity of the communities of Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Thoroughgood, and Chic's Beach. The main roads serving the area are U.S. Route 13 ( Northhampton Blvd.) and U.S. Route 60 (Shore Dr.). Northhampton Blvd. also merges into the Lucius J. Kellam Jr. Bridge-Tunnel and Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel to the north of Bayside.

Chic's Beach Shopping Center

Located in the community of Bayside is the Chic's Beach Shopping Center. Situated on Shore Dr., between S. Olver Dr. and Pleasure House Rd., the center provides retail therapy for the residents in the area. Stores and services offered at the center are:

Recreational Activities

For those who don't find pleasure in shopping and would rather spend time outside, Bayside offers many recreational areas for their friends and families.

The Bayside Recreation Center, located on First Ct. Rd., is an 83,931 square-foot recreational space operated by the City of Virginia Beach Department of Parks and Recreation. The multi-faceted center features cardio equipment, free weights, circuit training, indoor pool, locker rooms, multipurpose gymnasium, racquetball courts, youth game room, indoor playground, adult billiards, party rooms and more. The center also provides group fitness classes, personal training and childcare. It is open on Mondays through Fridays from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sitting adjacent to the recreation center is Bayville Farms Park. This 68-acre park was established in 1978 through the combined efforts of the City of Virginia Beach, Virginia's Department of Conservation and Recreation, and the National Park Service. It offers amenities like six lighted tennis courts with one striped for pickleball, there lighted basketball courts, two lighted softball fields, three large picnic shelters with charcoal grills, one playground, therapeutic cradle swing sets, shuffleboard courts, volleyball court, TRX suspension frame, walking paths, picnic tables, restrooms and vending machines. The park also features a dog park and an 18-hole disc golf course that's free to use. To host a tournament, the disc golf course is $75 to use.
