The child abuse attorneys from Warsaw presents to you this article on the city of Warsaw. We encourage you to learn about the city's history and explore more of its features.

Short History of Warsaw

Warsaw is a city in Kosciusko County, Indiana. Also the seat of the county, its beginnings started with trappers, traders and merchants supplying manufactured goods to farmers in the area. However, soon after, tourists began visiting Warsaw because of its central location in the lake region. As permanent residences were built and industry moved to the area, Warsaw was incorporated as a town in March 1854.

In 1854 and 1870, the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Big For Railroad arrived in the town, respectively. In 1895, DePuy Manufacturing – the first manufacturer of orthopedic appliances in the world – was founded by Revra DePuy in Warsaw to make wire mesh and wooden splints. In 1905, Justin Zimmer was hired as a splint salesman. Twelves years later, he left the company to start his own orthopedic company with Joe Ettinger. Warsaw has come to be known as the Orthopaedic Capital of the World."

Historic Sites

Among the many properties and establishments of Warsaw, there are a number of them that hold historical significance to the city. Some of which are:

  • East Fort Wayne Street Historic District
  • Warsaw Courthouse Square Historic District
  • Kosciusko County Jail
  • Warsaw Cut Glass Company
  • Justin Zimmer House

These historic sites have been added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).

Justin Zimmer House

Justin Zimmer House was the home of Justin O. Zimmer, the founder of Zimmer Holdings. Built in 1934, it was designed by Alvin M. Strauss and is one of the only two Tudor Revival architecture houses in Warsaw. Located on East Center Street, the residence is now the White Hill Manor bed and breakfast. On December 19, 1991, it was listed on the NRHP.

Central Park

Central Park is a recreational space for residents and visitors of Warsaw. The beautiful green scenery is a great place for a quick escape or to spend time with your family. It features open space, picnic tables, picnic shelters, a walkway around the park, a water feature, gardens, restrooms and vending machines. Operated by the City of Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department, it is open daily from May 1 to September 30 from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. From October 1 to April 30, it is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The park can be found on East Fort Wayne Street.

Bixler Park

Situated just above Central Park is Bixler Park. Another recreational space for the community, the memorial park offers basketball courts, tennis courts, a playground, picnic tables, two picnic shelters, the Warsaw Biblical Garden, a gazebo, and lake access. Located on Center Lake, the park is also within walking distance to Center Lake Beach, Kiddie Land, and a number of restaurants. Unfortunately, Bixler Park has a no pet or alcohol policy.
