West Lafayette is a city in the Wabash Township of Tippecanoe County, Indiana. Situated directly across the Wabash River from its sister city of Lafayette, it is the most densely populated city in the state. The city was created by the merger of the adjacent suburban towns of Kingston, Chauncey and Oakwood on a bluff of the Wabash River in 1888. As of 2010, the city has a population of 29,596 people and a total area of 7.63 square miles.
West Lafayette has developed into an independent city separate from Lafayette, Indiana. With independent services and unique neighborhood distinctions, the city is also home to a number of landmarks and properties that depict its history. This include:

Purdue University was created on May 6, 1869, after Lafayette businessman John Purdue donated land and money for the establishment of a college of agriculture, science and technology in his name. The public land-grant research university is academically affiliated with the Association of American Universities, Universities Research Association, American University of the Middle East, sea-grant and space-grant.
As the main flagship of the Purdue University system, it is located in the city of West Lafeyette and offers over 200 majors for undergraduates and more than 69 masters and doctoral programs. The university also grants professional degrees in veterinary medicine, pharmacy, and doctor of nursing practice. In Fall 2020, it had a total enrollment of 45,869 students. The main campus features the Purdue Mall, Purdue memorial Mall, South Campus, West Campus and Stadium Avenue.
One of the many parks and green spaces in West Lafeyette, Happy Hollow Park can be found on Happy Hollow Road, just off of North River Road (Indiana State Road 43) near the Wabash River. Providing a recreational area for residents and visitors, it offers amenities like a playfield, volleyball court, two playgrounds, five shelters, grill, picnic tables, drinking fountain, a 1-mile footpath, a 1-mile paved Trolley Line Trail, restrooms and electricity. The 81- acre park is managed by the City of West Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department and is open daily from 8 a.m. until half an hour after sunset.
