Goodyear is a city in the county of Maricopa, Arizona. A suburb of Phoenix, it was founded in 1917 when the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company – what the city's named after – purchased 16,000 acres of land to produce cotton for their vehicle tire cords. On November 19, 1946, Goodyear was incorporated into a town. It consisted of 151 homes, 250 apartments, a grocery store, a gas station, a barber shop and a beauty shop. During World War II, the Luke Filed Auxiliary #6, or the Goodyear Field, was built in 1943 by the U. S. Army Air Forces. The Phoenix Goodyear Airport was also built during this time.
In 1985, Goodyear was incorporated as a city. The city began to see a rise in population and construction after 1990. In the 2000s American housing bubble, the city was affected and its housing value declined. However, since then, Goodyear real estate has bounced back. Opendoor reported that the city was the fifth most popular place to buy a home in the metropolitan area of Phoenix. With an area of 20,000 acres, Estrella is the largest master-planned community in Goodyear.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Goodyear has a total area of 116.5 square miles. It is located near the areas of Buckeye, Liberty, Citrus Park, Avondale, Tolleson, and Litchfield Park. The Gila River passes through the middle of the city, going west to east. Half of the Estrella Mountain Regional Park is also part of Goodyear – the other half being in Avondale. It features two baseball fields, eight trails and a 9.5-mile track. As of the 2019 census, the city has a population of 86,840 people.

Phoenix Goodyear Airport was developed as a naval air facility during World War II. Originally called the NAF Litchfield Park, it was renamed NAS Litchfield Park when it was upgraded to a naval air station. In 1968, after the closure of the naval air station, the city of Phoenix acquired the airport to use it as a general aviation reliever airport for the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. It was promptly renamed the Phoenix Goodyear Airport. Although it is not served by any airlines, many domestic and international aircraft can be spotted there because the airport is a major keep and maintenance spot.
The Goodyear Ballpark was opened on February 21, 2009, as part of a $108 million baseball complex. The stadium is the spring training home of the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Indians. It has a capacity of 10,311 people. Although primarily used for baseball, it has been the host of community events like the City of Goodyear's Fall Festival, Home Plate for the Holidays, and Star Spangled 4th. It can be found on South Ballpark Way.
