Situated on Chapparal Drive, Cave Spring High School was founded in 1956 on Brambleton Avenue at the site of the current Cave Spring Middle School. In 1968, the school was relocated to its present location. It has a population of 986 students from grades 9 through 12. There is a student-to-teacher ratio of 14 to 1. The high school is ranked on Niche as number 1 in the best high schools for STEM in the Roanoke area and has an overall grade of an A. GreatSchools also gives it a 7.
As a way to handle the overcrowding issues happening at Cave Spring High School, Hidden Valley High School was opened on Titan Trail for the 2002-2003 school year. It has a total enrollment of 814 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of 15 to 1. Based on state test scores, 95% of its students are proficient in reading and 97% in math. The high school has a Niche overall grade of an A and is ranked number 1 in the best public high schools in the Roanoke area. It has a GreatSchools rating of a 7.
Tanglewood Mall was opened on March 28, 1973, at the junction of Electric Road and Franklin Road SW (U.S. Route 220). Managed by Urban Retail Properties, it is home to seven anchors, national retailers, specialty shops, and restaurants. Some of the mall's occupants are TJ Maxx & HomeGoods, Staples, Five Guys, bkt Uniforms, Bath & Body Works, Belk, Warehouse Furniture, Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio, Mommy Time, Factory One, Crystal Cottage, Suit City, Champloo Desserts, Barnes & Noble, Kroger, and Red Palace Chinese. The mall also houses the AMC CLASSIC Roanoke 10, providing recreational entertainment for visitors.
Another form of recreation for visitors and residents of the Cave Spring CDP is the Garst Mill Park. Located on Willowlawn Street, it is operated by the Roanoke County Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. Amenities offered at the park are the following:
