Marconi Plaza

Marconi Plaza is an urban park in Lower Moyamensing. Its name is a recognition of the 1900s cultural identity of Italian-American neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Situated on Oregon Avenue and bisected by Broad Street, it is within the Sports Complex Special Services District. The design of the 19-acre Roman-style square park is strongly influenced by renowned architect Paul Philippe Cret. It was created in 1914 and features a bronze statue of Guglielmo Marconi and a marble statue of Christopher Columbus. In 2020, in the aftermath of the greater Black Lives Matter movement and the George Floyd protest, the Columbus statue was a target for vandalism and was sanctioned to be removed. In 2021, a Philadelphia judge ruled that the controversial statue could continue to be displayed in the park because the city's efforts to remove it were not supported by law or sufficient evidence.

In terms of recreational purposes, the urban park provides amenities like a baseball and softball field, playground, and paved paths for walking, jogging and running. It is open to the public daily from dawn to dusk. During lunchtime or in the afternoons, the plaza is the perfect plaza to relax or have a picnic.
