Shelbyville is a city in the Addison Township of Shelby County, Indiana. During the 1818 Treat of St. Mary's, the land that is now the city was ceded to the U.S. by the Miami tribe. Named in honor of Isaac Shelby, the first Governor of Kentucky, Shelbyville was platted in 1822. On January 21, 1850, the town was incorporated. As of 2010, Shelbyville is the county seat of Shelby County. It has a population of 19,191 people and a total area of 11.845 square miles. The city is located at the fork of the Little Blue River and the Big Blue River. It has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons.

The Grober Museum, or the Louis H. and Lena Firn Grover Museum, was established in 1981 by the Shelby County Historical Society. The local history museum features three rotating galleries and three permanent ones used to display artifacts that are historically significant to the county. Two of its notable exhibits are a life-size recreation of the village during the early 1900s, "The Streets of Old Shelby," and a railroad exhibit that includes a railroad diorama with an interurban train and two working trains. The museum is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Indiana Grand Racing & Casino is a horse racing track and casino on North Michigan Road in Shelbyville. Opened on March 13, 2009, it is owned and managed by Caesars Entertainment. The 233,000-square-foot casino is the closest one to Indianapolis. It provides gaming, entertainment, restaurants and a gift shop for visitors. From April through October, the casino's race track, the Indiana Grand Race Course, hosts various live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse races. One of them being the Indiana Derby.
Blue River Memorial Park is a busy park in Shelbyville. Situated along the Little Blue River, the 186-acre park is home to a memorial honoring Shelby County's veterans who died in war. It also offers amenities such as softball fields, soccer fields, a walking and biking trail, splash pad, fishing node, playground, cross country course, canoe and kayak drop, dog park and corporate shelter. Also located in the park are 20 acres of quail and butterfly habitat. Blue River Memorial Park is open daily from 7 a.m.. to 10 p.m. on Lee Boulevard.
