On August 23, 2024, a Georgia man was sentenced to 13-27 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a young boy in Wayne, Pennsylvania, over a decade ago. John Bosio, 60, was convicted in January on multiple counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old, and corruption of minors.

Case Details and Conviction

The victim, who was 12 or 13 years old at the time of the assaults, reported the abuse to law enforcement in February 2021 at the age of 20. The incidents occurred while Bosio was staying at the victim's residence in Wayne for several months.

The abuse escalated over three separate incidents:

  1. Bosio entered the victim's room and inappropriately touched him while he slept.
  2. A similar assault occurred on a later date.
  3. The third and most severe incident involved Bosio threatening the victim with a knife and sexually assaulting him.

Legal Proceedings and Sentencing

Common Pleas Court Judge G. Michael Green presided over the case, which resulted in Bosio's conviction on multiple charges. In addition to the prison sentence, Bosio was ordered to:

  • Register as a sexual offender for life under Megan's Law
  • Serve seven years of sexual offender probation
  • Provide a DNA sample to state police
  • Have no contact with the victim

Assistant District Attorney Bryan Barth sought a 20-40 year sentence, citing the mandatory minimum of 10-20 years for each involuntary deviate sexual intercourse charge.

Impact on the Victim and Family

The victim's parents spoke at the sentencing, highlighting the profound impact of the abuse on their son's life:

  • The victim silently dealt with trauma for years
  • His academic performance suffered, affecting his career aspirations
  • He turned to football as an outlet until an injury ended that pursuit
  • The family experienced emotional turmoil following the disclosure

Despite these challenges, the victim has shown resilience, potentially pursuing a career as a prosecutor and helping others expunge their records.

Legal Commentary

Attorney Guy D'Andrea, Esq. of Abuse Guardians offers the following commentary on this case:
