An investigative article published by the New York Times in early December 2020, recounted the tales of teenagers under the age of 18 who have had their lives changed by the Canadian-based porn site. A follow-up article just a few days later shared massive leaps to stop this from happening in the future, including an announcement from Pornhub to curb future exploitation.
In addition to the New York Times articles, earlier this year a petition was started to shut down the Pornhub site. This petition, Traffickinghub, now has over 2 million signatures.
Both Visa and Mastercard have also blocked payments to the site following the investigative article.
Over the first weekend of December, Pornhub has removed 80% of its videos, from 13.5 million videos to 2.9 million. The site no longer hosts videos from unverified users.
