Description of Upper St. Clair

Upper St. Clair is a home ruling township in the southern part of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. It is bordered by the communities of:

  • Scott Township and Mt. Lebanon on the north
  • Bethel Park on the east
  • Peters Township on the south
  • South Fayette Township on the west
  • Bridgeville on the northwest

The first European settler to settle the area was John Fife in 1762. During the establishment of Allegheny County in 1788, St. Clair was one of its original townships. In 1836, St. Clair Township was split into the townships of Upper St. Clair and Lower St. Clair. On January 5, 1976, the home ruling charter for Upper St. Clair Township went into effect.

As of today, Upper St. Clair is one of the wealthiest suburbs in Pittsburgh. Around 733 acres of its 9.8 square miles area is dedicated to parks and fields. In the 2010 census, the population for the township was 19,229. According to U.S. News & World Report, it was ranked one of the top 10 best places to live in the U.S. The suburb is home to a nationally recognized school district.

Boyce Mayview Park

Boyce Mayview Park is a 474-acre park on Mayview Road. Managed by the Upper St. Clair Township Recreation and Leisure Services Department, it is a great recreational area for residents and visitors along Chartiers Creek. The park consists of extensive woodlands, open spaces, level fields, stream valleys, hiking trails and vegetable gardens. It also offers amenities like:

  • The Clubhouse Playground

  • Baseball/Softball Field
  • Multipurpose Field
  • Miracle Field
  • Batting Cage
  • Community & Recreation Center
  • Pavilions
  • Concession Stand
  • Trails

The park is open Mondays through Fridays from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Saturdays and Sundays, it is open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 12 to 5 p.m., respectively.

St. Clair Country Club

St. Clair Country Club has been in operation for over 100 years. The country club is your home away from home as it represents the quiet ambiance and character of a true pastoral countryside. The private club is home to an 18-hole Championship Course designed by Joe Lee and Dick Wilson in the late 1960s. It also features a 9-hole course, the Terrace Nine, that was designed by Tom Bendelow in 1916.

Other amenities provided to members and guests of the country club are a state-of-the-art golf simulator, practice facilities with putting greens, a short game area and driving range, a large heated swimming pool, locker facilities, a fully-equipped Fitness Center, and fine and casual dining. The property is also a beautiful place to host special events such as bar mitzvah, weddings, reception, social functions and corporate events.
