Green Run is a community in the center of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Located at the geographical coordinates of 36.798333 degrees north latitude and 76.091944 degrees west longitude, the commercial and residential area was built between 1968 and 1986 as the first Planned Unit Development in the South Hampton Roads region. The Green Run area is also home to the Tidewater Community College. Founded on February 4, 1968, the public community college is part of the Virginia Community College System. It has also been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The school has a population of around 34,000 undergraduates.
The college offers four campuses for students throughout Virginia. The Fred W. Beazley Portsmouth Campus includes an A Building, B Building, C Building and the Student Center. The Norfolk Campus has the Andrews Building, Martin Building, Walker Building, Roper Performing Arts Center and the Student Center. The Chesapeake Campus has the George B. Pass Building, Marian P. Whitehurst Technology Center, Academic Building, and the Student Center that was opened in the spring of 2014. The Virginia Beach Campus includes 11 buildings.
Some of these are the Advanced Technology Center, Joint-Use Library, Student Center, and the Bayside Building. Other centers that are part of the Tidewater Community College are the Center for Workforce Solutions, the Jeanne & George Roper Performing Arts Center, Visual Arts Center and the Regional Automotive Center.
Situated on the corner of Dam Neck Road and Princess Anne Road in Green Run, the Princess Anne Commons Gateway Park is an urban park serving as the gateway to the Princess Anne Commons corridor. It is home to the Light Garden sculpture – a series of sun-refraction glass panels the resemble a grove of trees – that was created by the internationally known artist Dale Eldred. The park also features a playground, picnic tables, and grills for you and your family to have fun and enjoy your time there.
