Sexual abuse can raise a number of painful and distressing emotions, from grief and shame to embarrassment and anger. These are natural reactions that should be honored, but just know that this was not your fault. You were wronged by someone you trusted. You did not do anything wrong. The only person who deserves blame is the person who violated you, along with any organizations that enabled the abuse.
You deserved better. And now, we believe that you deserve justice. Hundreds of young women have filed sexual assault lawsuits against some of the nation's most prestigious universities. In court documents filed in state and federal courts, plaintiffs from across the nation accuse their universities of failing to protect them from dangerous sexual predators.

Some of the women were abused by their coaches. Others were victimized by their trainers, still others by doctors. Many of the victims were engaged in Olympic-track athletics, training under the auspices of the US Olympic Committee and one of its 47 national governing bodies.
While each plaintiff's experience is unique, they all share a common core of allegations. In their lawsuits, plaintiffs allege that the US Olympic Committee has created a culture and environment in which sexual abuse is tolerated, ignored and concealed. This systemic disregard for sexual abuse survivors, the plaintiffs continue, has trickled down to infect each national governing body. And it's shared by the universities where student athletes train for USOC-sanctioned sporting events, the lawsuits contend, citing recent sexual assault scandals at the Michigan State University, University of Southern California and Ohio State University.
At each one of these institutions, high-level school officials have been accused of hiding sexual abuse complaints from the authorities in order to protect their own reputations. Plaintiffs say the universities are just one piece of a system, college athletics, that routinely exploits vulnerable young athletes, forcing them to trade their health and dignity for a shot at international competition.
