Ferinden coached youth hockey teams and operated skating clinics in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware and Vermont between 1980 and 2010. He was arrested in 2017 in New Jersey on charges of abusing a child in Gloucester County, while facing nine similar charges in Delaware. In 2016 and 2017, the victim in Gloucester County told police that Ferinden "kissed him on the mouth, massaged his body and pressed his genitals against him" in an apartment, prosecutors say.
In December, Ferinden was sentenced to two years in prison by a Delaware court after he pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful sexual conduct. In New Jersey, he was sentenced on May 3, 2019 to three years of incarceration on charges of aggravated sexual contact. At the sentencing hearing, New Jersey Superior Court Judge Kevin Smith rejected the idea of having the two prison sentences run concurrently. As a result, Ferinden will spend at least 5 years in prison for his crimes of serial child molestation.
