Short History of Thalia

Thalia is a neighborhood in the northeastern part of the City of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Located in the Hampton Roads Region of the state, the area was an unincorporated community in the former Princess Anne County. During World War II, the U.S. Army prisoner-of-war camp, Camp Ashby, was positioned there. After the war, residential development began to gradually build in the area. Today, the community of Thalia is home to Thalia Elementary School, Loehmann's Plaza Shopping Center, and the Fire Department No. 7. Sub-neighborhoods that are within the community are:

The main roads serving the area are Thalia Drive, Thalia Road, Lynn Shores Drive, Edinburg Drive, and Virginia Beach Boulevard ( U.S. Route 58).

Thalia Elementary School

Part of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools System, Thalia Elementary School is ranked 409 in the best public elementary schools in Virginia. The above average school caters to students from pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade. It has a total population of 568 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of 16 to 1. Based on standardized state test scores, 79% of its students are at least proficient in reading, and 85% are in math. Niche gives it an overall grade of a B plus, and GreatSchools gives it a 6.

Loehmann's Plaza

The Loehmann's Plaza is a shopping mall situated on Virginia Beach Boulevard in the neighborhood of Thalia. It offers a range of options for residents and visitors to choose from.

Open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 12 to 6 p.m., it provides more options to browse from.
