Burden was fired from his role as a music leader at Calgary Baptist Church after his arrest in July of 2015. He was arraigned on charges including vicarious sexual gratification involving a victim younger than 14.
There were signs, however, that the church stood by Burden even during his prosecution. In a sermon held after Burden’s firing, Pastor Daniel Berry implored congregants not to judge the former music leader.
In 2016, Burden was convicted of attempted child exploitation and possession of child pornography. He was released from prison in June 2018, but remains a registered sex offender in the State of Indiana.

Over the last five years, many prominent members of the Southern Baptist Convention have been hit by sexual abuse allegations.
