In a disturbing case that has shocked the El Dorado community, a former employee of a college daycare center has been arrested on charges of child sexual abuse in Kansas. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and open communication when it comes to protecting our children.
On May 3, 2020, the El Dorado Police Department received a report of sexual abuse that allegedly occurred approximately five years ago at the EduCare Daycare Center, located on the Butler Community College campus. Following an investigation, police arrested 31-year-old Brett Martin, who was previously employed as the daycare's assistant director.Martin faces requested charges of Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Child, a serious offense under Kansas law. The suspect's name has since been removed from the school's website, where he was previously listed as the assistant director of the daycare facility.
Authorities have revealed that Martin was involved in multiple community organizations where he came into contact with children. This information raises concerns about the potential scope of his alleged activities and underscores the need for a thorough investigation.
This case highlights the critical importance of maintaining open lines of communication with children about sexual abuse. Parents and guardians are encouraged to have age-appropriate conversations with their children about personal safety and the importance of reporting any uncomfortable or inappropriate situations.
For those seeking guidance on how to initiate these crucial conversations, the Sunlight Children's Advocacy & Rights Foundation (SCARF) is available to provide support and resources. Families can reach SCARF at 316-313-4107 for assistance in addressing this sensitive topic with their children.
The El Dorado Police Department is actively investigating this case. They urge anyone with information related to the investigation or who believes their child may have been a victim of sexual abuse to come forward. It's crucial for parents to remain vigilant and maintain open communication with their children. If you suspect your child has been a victim of abuse, it's important to report it immediately to law enforcement and seek legal counsel to protect your child's rights and ensure justice is served."
