Brief History of Fall Creek Place

Fall Creek Place is a revitalized neighborhood in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is bounded by Fall Creek Parkway on the north, College Avenue on the east, 22nd Street on the south, and Meridian Street on the west. The neighborhood features mostly Victorian homes built in the late 1800s and consists of narrow, tree-lined streets.

In the 1980s, the area fell into serious disrepair. It wasn't until 2001 that the City of Indianapolis began to redevelop the neighborhood into a mixed-income residential community. In 2003, Fall Creek Place was selected as the winner of the 2003 Outstanding Planning Award for "Implementing Smart Growth" by the American Planning Association. The National League of Cities also gave Indianapolis the silver winner Award for Municipality Excellence for the Fall Creek Place redevelopment project in 2006.

In earlier years, the neighborhood of Fall Creek Place was nicknamed "Dodge City," in reference to Dodge City, Kansas – an infamous western town with shootouts in the streets. It was because, during the 1980s and 1990s, the area experienced a number of frequent drive-bys.
