Located just south of Eagledale is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway – an automobile racing circuit. Due to its close proximity, a large number of cars can be seen parked in yards on homes in the neighborhood during the Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway was established in 1909 as the second purpose-built, banked oval racing circuit. The speedway feature a 2.5-mile-long rectangular, oval track, a modern FIA Grade One infield road course, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, and the Brickyard Crossing Golf Resort. It has been the host of the Indianapolis 500, NASCAR's Verizon 200, Pennzoil 150, Formula One United States Grand Prix, and the Moto GP.
On March 7, 1975, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). On February 27, 1987, it was also designated as a National Historic Landmark (NHL).
