Eagledale is a suburban neighborhood on the west side of Indianapolis, Indiana. It is one of the few neighborhoods that was annexed by the city before Unigov – the 1970's consolidation of city and county governments. It is loosely bounded by 38th Street to the north, Lafayette Road to the east, 25th Street to the south, and High School Road to the west. Most of the ranch homes in the neighborhood were built by National Homes in the 1950s and 1960s. 64% of the residents in Eagledale rent their houses for a median rent price of $884. The median home value for the area is $77,902. This is lower than the national median home value of $217,500.
Located just south of Eagledale is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway – an automobile racing circuit. Due to its close proximity, a large number of cars can be seen parked in yards on homes in the neighborhood during the Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway was established in 1909 as the second purpose-built, banked oval racing circuit. The first to be named a 'speedway,' it is also the third oldest permanent automobile race track and the highest-capacity sports venue in the world, with 257,325 permanent seatings. The speedway feature a 2.5-mile-long rectangular, oval track, a modern FIA Grade One infield road course, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, and the Brickyard Crossing Golf Resort. It has been the host of the Indianapolis 500, NASCAR's Verizon 200, Pennzoil 150, Formula One United States Grand Prix, and the Moto GP.
On March 7, 1975, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). On February 27, 1987, it was also designated as a National Historic Landmark (NHL). It is the only such site that is affiliated with automotive racing history. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the largest sports venue in the world.
