El Mirage is a city situated along the Agua Fria River and U.S. Route 60 in the northwestern section of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. Part of Maricopa County, it is the 26th best suburbs to live in the Phoenix area, according to Niche. The city offers a rural area feel. 64% of its residents own their homes, with the median home value of $160,800 and the median rent of $1,228. As of the 2019 census estimate, El Mirage has a population of 35,753 people and a total area of 9.7 square miles.

El Mirage Motel

One of the establishments that depict the history of El Mirage is the El Mirage Motel. Built in 1937 out of fieldstone, it consisted of individual structures that offered individual rooms for guests. Most visitors were motorists passing through Grand Ave. Today, the motel is located on Northwest Grand Avenue and has been abandoned.

Recreation

Gateway Park on North El Mirage Road is a 13-acre park that provides a great recreational space for residents and visitors to the city. It features amenities such as:

  • Two lighted basketball courts
  • Two lighted youth and adult baseball/softball fields
  • Three multipurpose fields
  • Skate plaza
  • Shaded playground and Tot Lot

The park also offers facility rentals for five ramadas, one center multipurpose field, two football and soccer fields, and two softball and baseball fields. It is open every day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is managed by the El Mirage Parks and Recreation Department.

Bill Gentry Park

The other park that is operated by the El Mirage Parks and Recreation is the Bill Gentry Park. Also located on North El Mirage Road, the smaller city park provides recreational amenities like a lighted basketball court, lighted youth baseball field, a playground, workout stations, and a double ramada with four picnic tables.

Pueblo El Mirage Golf Course

Another recreational space that residents of El Mirage like to frequent is the Pueblo El Mirage Golf Course. The 18-hole, par-72, championship golf course was designed by Fuzzy Zoeller and has been ranked one of the best golf courses in the valley. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., it offers a range of levels of difficulty for novices to seasoned players. Golf rates can start from $10 to $25 per player, depending on the time. If you get thirsty or hungry, the Pueblo Bar and Grill in the golf course also serves some great food and beverage.
