Denver Park is a neighborhood park in Near Westside. Located on North Sharon Avenue, it was acquired in 1925 by the Indy Parks and Recreation Department. The park encompassed 2.45 acres of land and was named after a blind Parks employee who used to play there as a child. It features a swing set, playground, picnic shelter, picnic tables, open space, shaded areas, a basketball court, and a recreational soccer field. The park is also home to an "Operation Cooldown" site and a "Supervised Playground Program." It is open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Also operated by the Indy Parks and Recreation, the Municipal Gardens Park can be found on Lafayette Road, just northeast of Near Westside. Bordered by White River on the east side, it provided visitors with recreational amenities like a multipurpose sports field, outdoor basketball court, playground, spray pool, picnic shelters, a family center, game room, indoor gym, kitchen, and ballroom. Residents in the area have the option to rent a number of its facilities. The Municipal Gardens Park is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 9 p.m. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, it is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Fridays, it is open from 2 to 9 p.m. On Saturdays, it is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The park is closed on Sundays.
