Description of Eagar

Eagar is a town within Apache County, Arizona. It was first settled in 1871 by John Thomas Eagar, his brothers Joel and William, and another family by the name of Robertson.  The first postmistress of the town, Emma Golsbrough Udall, was the one to suggest naming it "Eagarville" to honor the Eagar brothers after the U.S. postmaster general rejected her suggestion of the name "Union." In December 1892, when the school district had to be renamed, the postmaster general changed the town's name to "Eagar." In 1948, the Eagar was incorporated as a town.

Education

The Town of Eagar is served by the Round Valley Unified School District. The schools offering classes to the students in the neighborhood are Round Valley Elementary School, Round Valley Middle School and Round Valley High School.

Round Valley High School can be found on North Butler Street. The above-average school has a population of 383 students from 9th to 12th grade. There is a student-to-teacher ratio of 21 to 1. Based on state test scores, 55% of its students are proficient in math and 45% are in reading. The public high school has an overall Niche grade of a B and a GreatSchools rating of 6 out of 10.

Ramsey Park

Also situated on North Bulter Street is Ramsey Park. Catering to residents and visitors of the neighborhood, it is owned and operated by the Town of Eagar Parks & Rec Department. The park is fun for people of all ages and physical abilities. It features a skate park, splash pad, playground, large pavilion with four BBQ grills, a kitchen, and restrooms. The neighborhood park is open every day from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

R Lazy J Wildlife Ranch

The R Lazy J Wildlife Ranch is a wildlife ranch that focuses on conservation in Eagar. Offering guided tours of over 50 species of birds, reptiles and mammals, the ranch is home to a variety of animals from Africa, Asia and South America. Although walk-ups are welcome, it is recommended that visitors make reservations for guided safari tour times. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., admission is $15 per person.
