The census-designated place (CDP) was constructed in 1998 west of the master-planned community of Sun City. As of the 2010 census, the premier active adult golf community has a population of 24,535 people and a total area of 11.1 square miles. It is served by Arizona State Road 303 and U.S. Route 60 (West Grand Avenue).

Hillcrest Golf Club

The Hillcrest Golf Club can be found in the center of Sun City West on North Star Ridge Drive. Opened in 1978, the public golf club features an 18-hole golf course with three sets of tees for different skill levels,  a double-ended driving range, and extensive short game practice areas. It is also home to the largest golf school in the nation.
