McCormick Ranch is one of the largest planned communities in the state of Arizona. Located in central Scottsdale, the area was first settled by the Jolly family in 1921 when they built a ranch and home on 160 acres of land situated at the present corner of Scottsdale Road and Indian Bend Road. In 1942, it was acquired by Merle Cheney, who sold it to Fowler and Anne McCormick shortly after. Between 1942 and 1954, the McCormicks began to purchase additional parcels around the land.
In 1967, 100 acres of the land was donated to the City of Scottsdale. Thirty acres of it were designated as McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. After Anne McCormick died in 1969, about 4,236 acres of the land were sold to Kaiser-Aetna in 1970 for a price of $12.1 million. It was the largest single piece of land sold for a master-planned community within city limits in the U.S. Richard F. Boultinghouse became the General Manager for the McCormick Ranch and was responsible for its real estate development.
In 1972, the planned community was incorporated and opened to the public. It was designed by Desmond Muirhead. The McCormick Ranch Golf Club planned community features two championship 18-hole golf courses, recreational parks, public tennis courts, over 25 miles of bicycle paths, 130 acres of man-made lakes, dining facilities, shopping plazas, and 8,900 homes, condominiums and apartments. In 1979, the golf club community was purchased by Edward Pincus. It has been a family-owned business since.

The Village at Hayden is another shopping plaza in the planned community. Located on the corner of East Via de Ventura and North Hayden Road, it provides even more services and dining spots for residents. Comanche Park is an 11-acre park owned and operated by the City of Scottsdale Parks and Recreation Department. Opened daily from sunrise to 10:30 p.m., it offers amenities like a lighted basketball court, lighted tennis court, exercise course, playground, and drop-in ramada. The park can be found in McCormick Ranch.
