Drexel Hill is a census-designated place (CDP) and a neighborhood in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. Located at the geographical coordinates of 39.949962 degrees north latitude and 75.301841 degrees west longitude, it is bordered by:
The neighborhood has a total area of 3.2 square miles and a population of 28,043 people as of the 2010 census. The main roads serving the area are Township Line Road ( U.S. Route 1), Burmont Road, Drexel Avenue, State Road, School Lane, Edmonds Avenue, Lansdowne Avenue, Garrett Road, Marshall Road, and Shadeland Avenue.
The CDP of Drexel Hill is part of the Upper Darby School District. Public schools within the neighborhood are Aronimink Elementary School, Garretford Elementary School, Charles Kelly Elementary School, Hillcrest Elementary School, Upper Darby Kindergarten Center, Drexel Hill Middle School, and Upper Darby High School.
The neighborhood is also home to a number of Parochial schools. These include Saint Dorothy's School, Saint Andrew the Apostle School and Saint Bernadette's School. The other private school in the area, although non-parochial, is Holy Child Academy.
It is said that Lower Swedish Cabin is the oldest log house in the United States. Built possibly around 1638 and 1655 by early Swedish settlers, it is of the Swedish Plan architectural style. The house was a private residence until it became a property of the Upper Darby Township after it was documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey in 1937. On June 9, 1980, the house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). On October 21, 1989, it was designated on the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission.
Collen Brook Farm, or Collenbrook, is situated just off Mansion Road on MArvine Avenue in Drexel Hill. Originally built in 1700 by Mordecai Lawrence, the 2 and a half-story, vernacular stone home is of the Georgian, Colonial and Center Hall Plan architectural styles. Once the home of notable political leader and educator George Smith, the property includes a farmhouse, a stone and frame carriage house, and a granite spring house. It is owned by the Upper Darby Historical Society and opens for visitors on Sunday afternoons from May to October. On December 22, 1988, the farm was added to the NRHP.
